Francisco Costa, Adriana Lima, and Alessandra Ambrosio Are #TeamRio – Vogue.com
With so many people from around the world passing through Rio for the Olympic Games, the time was right for Team Rio to throw a fundraising dinner. As event chair Alessandra Ambrosio explained, “Team Rio is about bringing awareness to the BrazilFoundation. Obviously the foundation’s New York gala is huge, because New York is so important for philanthropy, but we wanted to have a dinner here to bring the party to Rio.”
Held poolside atop the Hotel Fasano, overlooking Ipanema Beach, the dinner was a cross-section of Brazil’s brightest talents. There were, of course, top models Ambrosio, Adriana Lima, and Lea T. Also in attendance were the Fasano’s owner, Rogerio Fasano; artist Vik Muniz; and famed Brazilian soccer player Cafu, as well as socialite Andrea Dellal and former Vogue Brazil editor in chief Daniela Falcão.
Francisco Costa happened to be passing through Rio in time for the party. “I just got back from the Amazon. Fly five hours, drive four hours, then canoe six hours. Incredibly far but absolutely worth it. And I leave for Saõ Paulo tomorrow,” he explained. Currently a free agent after parting ways with Calvin Klein earlier this year, Costa is taking some much-deserved time to reconnect with his family and friends, as well as the Brazilian fashion community, which supports him so much. But what’s next? “I fly back to New York on Friday,” he told us. “And let’s just say things are in the works.”
All funds raised will support BrazilFoundation’s grant-making efforts, which contribute to some 40 different Brazil-based nonprofits. No matter the varied careers of the Brazilians at the party—model, editor, artist, hotelier—a feeling of national pride brought them together. The chic rooftop dinner under the stars raised a cool 800,000 real—that’s a little over $250,000.
