Once the world’s highest paid model, Gisele Bundchen knows a thing or two about how to walk with style. 

But the Brazilian made a mess of her starring role in the Rio 2016 opening  ceremony by sashaying too slowly, forcing the directors to cut out a  pre-planned segment, it has emerged. 

The show’s creative director, Fernando Meirelles, said Gisele’s slow  progress across the 400ft runway in the Maracana stadium meant a short homage to Tom Jobin, composer of The Girl From Ipanema, had to be dropped  at the last second.
