Breitling, the independent Swiss watch manufacturer, is pleased to announce its support for the inaugural Huntington Beach Air Show by becoming the title sponsor of the event. Scheduled for October 21-23, 2016, the Breitling Huntington Beach Air Show will be headlined by the world’s largest professional civilian jet team, the Breitling Jet Team as well as the United States Air Force Thunderbirds. The Breitling Jet Team’s performance at the Breitling Huntington Beach Air Show will mark the end of the team’s successful two-year American Tour with performances at over 30 air shows in the United States and Canada.
“Today, more than ever, Breitling is synonymous with aviation. We perpetuate our longstanding ties with aeronautics by overseeing the restoration of legendary aircraft, operating several exceptional flight teams, and supporting the international elite among pilots and squadrons, as well as by associating with the world’s finest air shows,” said Thierry Prissert, Breitling U.S.A. President. “The Breitling Huntington Beach Air Show is destined to be one of the best air shows in the U.S. and we are excited about sharing Breitling’s passion for aviation with the people of Southern California for years to come.”
“The Breitling Huntington Beach Air Show is thrilled to have Breitling on board as our title sponsor, a company who shares our passion and excitement for aviation, performance and precision. The association between Breitling and aviation is legendary, and we are proud to be partnering with such a prestigious brand,” said Mike McCabe, Air Show Director of the Breitling Huntington Beach Air Show.
In addition to having the Breitling Jet Team perform at the air show, Breitling will also serve as the official timekeeper for this premier event. Breitling’s affiliation with aviation dates back to the early 1930’s when they manufactured on-board chronographs for aircraft cockpits. These instruments enjoyed great success in the various armed forces, including the Royal Air Force, which used them in World War II propeller-driven fighter planes.
This solid connection to aviation continued, and in 1952, Breitling launched its legendary Navitimer watch, featuring a circular slide rule serving to perform the entire range of calculations relating to airborne navigation. This model shared the finest sky borne adventures and was soon chosen as the official watch by the AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association), the world’s largest association of its kind. It is still a favored iconic model for pilots today and is the oldest mechanical chronograph still in production.
In 1962, Scott Carpenter wore a Navitimer on his orbital flight aboard the Aurora 7, becoming the first space-going wrist chronograph. Other favorites among pilots are the Aerospace watch, which was launched in 1985, and the innovative Emergency watch with a built-in transmitter that was originally introduced in 1995 and was recently updated to a new version that has the world’s first wristwatch with a dual frequency locator beacon (PLB). Most recently, Breitling released the Exospace B55, Breitling’s first connected chronograph that embodies innovation, functionality and performance.
In addition to the Breitling Jet Team and the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, the Breitling Huntington Beach Air Show will feature top performers from around the world including two-time Red Bull Air Race World Champion Kirby Chambliss; the Red Bull Air Force; Jack Link’s Screamin’ Sasquatch Jet Waco; Bill Stein and his state-of-the-art Zivko Edge 540; 1995 U.S. National Aerobatic Champion, Michael Goulian Aerosports; and the Lyon Air Museum’s historic C-47 Dakota, recently christened “Willa Dean.”
