YPSILANTI, MI – The “Thunder Over Michigan Air Show” is bringing new wings to its 18th annual show.
The show, Aug. 20-21 at Willow Run Airport, 801 Kirk Profit Drive, is headlined for the first time by Breitling Jet Team, according to a show press release.
Breitling is based in Dijon, France and “is known worldwide for its tight formation flying in seven distinct black and gold Aero L-39 Albatross jets,” according to the release.
“The jets are powerful, lending themselves to a meticulously coordinated performance that has the jets flying within inches of each other at speeds exceeding 420 mph,” according to the release.
Breitling is performing in the USA this summer for its last time because of the high demand overseas, air show director Kevin Walsh said in the release.
“We are delighted to welcome the Breitling Jet Team,” he said. “Their performance is compelling and well-choreographed.”
Also flying is the U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptor, the U.S. Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet and “many other military and civilian performers,” according to the release.
The show is themed as “HELOtown USA” because it hosts a variety of unique helicopters from around the world as well, according to the release, which includes the famed Soviet Mi-24 Hind, the AH-1 Cobra, CH-47 Chinook, UH-1 Huey and more.
“We have a unique show in so many ways,” Walsh said in the release. “From the jet team and all of the helicopters to the WWII and modern battle reenactments, there is something for everyone.”
Tickets for the show are available at YankeeAirMuseum.org.
