TAMPA — Hillsborough County sheriff’s detectives are searching for two men they say stole several Rolex watches and diamonds from the International Diamond Center on N Dale Mabry Highway Friday afternoon.
The men entered the store at 10330 N Dale Mabry Highway about 4:50 p.m. and ordered employees to the ground, deputies said. One of the men used a mini sledgehammer to break the glass cases and removed diamonds and Rolex watches. The other man, armed with a 9mm handgun, took a wallet from an employee, deputies said.
The man fired the gun once before leaving the store. The bullet hit the ground and ricocheted through an office window. No one was hurt.
The men got away in an older model black Volkswagen Jetta. A credit card from the stolen wallet was used at a 7-Eleven gas station pump at 12902 Newsome Road in Dover about 6 p.m., deputies said.
Detectives describe one of the thieves as a 5-foot-10, 240-pound black man in his mid to late 30s who was wearing a black baseball cap, green long-sleeve knit sweater, blue jeans and large sunglasses. The ball cap may have had a Philadelphia Eagles logo on it, deputies said.
The other is a Hispanic or black man who is 6 feet tall, 200 pounds and in his late 30s. He was wearing a blue baseball cap, black hooded sweatshirt with a large logo on the front, black pants and black gloves.
